Rain’s Speed Racer is a waste of money

According to USA Today, “Speed Racer” is worthy of only 1.5 stars. And that low rating is not even attributed to Rain’s acting - it’s the entire movie. We anticipated failure, but who knew that it was going to be this bad.

Interestingly, despite the harsh reviews in the US, ticket sales for Speed Racer is almighty high in Korea, beating the blockbuster “Iron Man” in the box office. Again, Koreans are not ashamed to support bad movies if it boosts national pride somehow.

After reading the review, I’m skeptical about Rain’s Hollywood film debut, but I guess I owe it to Magic Fit Feet to shell out $10 this weekend for a review.

Seeya’s Nam Gyuri is crossing over to acting after flirting with two MV roles, including SG Wannabe’s “Love Song” and her group’s “Sad Footsteps.”

Ms. Nam’s first horror movie titled “Gosa” is a high school horror movie which is set to release this summer. Nam Gyuri and her co-star, Lee Bumsoo will start filming the movie this month.

Talk about fast production - two months to film and edit the movie? No wonder the quality of Chungmoro movies are questionable.

What a disappointing interview! Despite the time constraint and the request to ask only Speed Racer related questions, I expected better things to come out of Rain’s mouth but I guess I was expecting too much from the Engrish speaking star.

After being told that Rain wants to hold the interview in English, I asked him about his character in the movie and why we should fall in love with him. I expected some in-depth analysis of his character, Taejo, but instead he went on about how he signed on with the movie because he trusted the Wachowski brothers among some other things that weren’t interesting.

Song Hye-kyo at My Blueberry Nights premiere

April 6th, 2008 Movie News 2 Comments »

Song Hye-kyo was spotted at the U.S. premiere of Wong Kar-wai’s movie, “My Blueberry Nights” on April 2nd, 2008.

Seeing Ms Song in New York raises a few questions:
(1) What is she doing in NYC at a movie premiere that she has no association to?
(2) Does posing with the Wong Kar-wai mean that he will give her a role in his next movie, “The lady from Shanghai”? Is she trying to follow in the footsteps of Rain, Se7en, Jang Dong-gun and the other fools actors/singers trying to break into the U.S. market?
(3) What happened to her? She barely looks the same. What happened to the glam Song Hye-kyo?

“My blueberry nights” stars Norah Jones, Jude Law and Natalie Portman. The film will open in limited release in the U.S. and has already passed out of major theaters in Korea.

This is Wong Kar-wai’s first English film. Other non-English films include, “In the mood for love” (2000) and “Happy Together” (1997)
